Robert Bob Hovis, 79, of Zalma, passed away February 25, 2023 at his home. He was born January 22, 1944, at Turkey Creek, MO, the son of David Eugene and Anna Pridy Hovis.
Bob had been a lifelong farmer and sawmiller. He had been a faithful long-time member of Turkey Creek General Baptist Church in Hiram, MO and later a Pastor at Saco New Hope General Baptist Church near Cherokee Pass, MO.
Bob and Opal Deckerd were united in marriage on November 25, 1967, at Turkey Creek General Baptist Church and she survives.
Survivors include: his wife, Opal Hovis of the home a son, Edward (Michelle) Hovis of Zalma six daughters, Betsy (Roger) VanGennip of Zalma, Jeannie (Kevin) Harrell of Wentzville, MO, Linda (Joe) Crites of Hartville, MO, Carrie (Matt) Cutsinger of Cape Girardeau, Mary Kay (Adam) Stoneking of Jackson, MO and Cindy (Curt) Wiseman of McGee, MO six brothers, Tom Hovis of Greenville, Bill Hovis of Greenville, John Hovis of Zalma, Jim Hovis of Sikeston, Joe Hovis of Zalma and Mike Hovis of Advance 18 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a great-grandson, Adonis Porter.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 28, 2023 from 5:00 p.m, to 8:00 p.m. at Morgan Funeral Chapel in Advance. A funeral service will be held on Weds, March 1, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at the chapel with Rev. Don Richmond and Rev. Earl Elfrink officiating. Burial will follow at Berrong Cemetery in Gipsy, MO.
