Leeman L. Medlin Sr. and his twin brother Freeman F. Medlin were born in Himmel, Missouri on January 16, 1939 to George H. and Lura G. Medlin. They were welcomed into this world by his parents, two older brothers, Orville and Norman, three sisters, Erma, Georgia, and Lila Mae, and then two younger sisters, Lorene and Pamla, arrived later. A brother, Perry Medlin had gone to be with the Lord earlier.
The Medlin family grew up in the Commerce and Advance area. The age of 19 found Leeman headed for a career on the river starting as a deck hand and working up the ranks to become a moter vessel captain with a career that spanned 40 years. He was known and respected by his many friends and co-workers.
On March 21, 1959, he married June LeDure Medlin with whom he was blessed to share 32 years. They became parents to three children Leeman Jr, Michael, and Rhonda.
