Leeman L. Medlin Sr. and his twin brother Freeman F. Medlin were born in Himmel, Missouri on January 16, 1939 to George H. and Lura G. Medlin. They were welcomed into this world by his parents, two older brothers, Orville and Norman, three sisters, Erma, Georgia, and Lila Mae, and then two younger sisters, Lorene and Pamla, arrived later. A brother, Perry Medlin had gone to be with the Lord earlier.
The Medlin family grew up in the Commerce and Advance area. The age of 19 found Leeman headed for a career on the river starting as a deck hand and working up the ranks to become a moter vessel captain with a career that spanned 40 years. He was known and respected by his many friends and co-workers.
On March 21, 1959, he married June LeDure Medlin with whom he was blessed to share 32 years. They became parents to three children Leeman Jr, Michael, and Rhonda.
Sadly on Nov. 4, 1991, Leeman found himself alone when his sweetheart June went to be with the Lord.
On Oct. 24, 1996, Leeman married Donna Martin Glass of Bloomfield, Missouri, who survives of the home in Bloomfield.
Survivors also include, Leeman Jr. (Tina) Medlin of Scott City, Michael (Misti) Medlin of Paducah, Kentucky, Rhonda (Brian) Enderle of New Hamburg, Missouri, Tina Bowling of Chesterfield, Missouri and Kim (Tim) Bowling of Chaffee, Missouri 13 grandchildren, Hailey, Casey, Brett, Kendra, Lindsey, Erika, Madison, Will, Sam, Staci, Chelsea, Britany and Austin 16 great-grandchildren, Dante, Felix, Cameron, Carter, Laine, Peyton, Beau, Karson, Tate, Taylor, Cora, Mia, Jack, Rhea, Cooper, Weslee, and three new great-grandchildren on the way.
Leemans surviving siblings are Georgia Willen of Chesterfield, Pamla (George) Keeton of Ardmore, Okaloma and Lorene (Don) Garner of Advance, Missouri.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Morgan Funeral Chapel in Advance. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday at Oakdale Cemetery in Commerce, Missouri. The Rev. Ronnie Stevens and the Rev. Dean Williams will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to: St, Jude, St. Paul United Methodist Church in Commerce or the American Cancer Society.
