Ethel May Wilcox, 98, of Bloomfield, MO, passed away December 9, 2023, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, MO. She was born April 30, 1925, in Nebraska City, Nebraska, the daughter of David Lester Wilburn and Elsie Vera Barrett Wilcox.
For 20 years Ethel had worked as a seamstress at Elders. She retired from Grove Company at Sikeston. She enjoyed crocheting and reading. She loved watching the St. Louis Cardinal play baseball she was their biggest fan.
To know Ms. Ethel was a privilege and although she had no surviving family she was claimed as a mother and grandmother to many who loved her. Ms. Ethel was a very independent lady who took care of herself and cared for others. She brought joy to everyone she encountered throughout her 98 years. She always tried to make everyone laugh, even on her last day she said, it makes everything better.
A host of wonderful friends survives her.
She was preceded in death by her father, David Wilcox.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, December 14, 2023, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Morgan Funeral Chapel in Advance. A funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. at the chapel. Burial will follow at Pleasant Grove Cemetery near Bell City.
