Miss. Mary, as she was affectionately known by many, held several service positions including, teller at The Bank of Marble Hill, elementary school secretary at Zalma R5 Schools, community worker at the Bollinger County Health Department, Puxico Headstart, and various positions at the El Nathan Home. Miss. Mary was widely known for her Christian service. An avid worker in VBS, she connected with many young people. She also drove the church van for 20 plus years, often going into homes to wake children and get them ready for Sunday services. She led 1st Priority at Zalma High School for many years. Close to her heart were the ladies that she met with on Tuesday mornings for Bible Study. Tucked inside her Bible, her purse, and throughout the house, were index cards filled with Bible verses for her to memorize, meditate on, and to share with others. It was a blessing to receive a text or card from Miss. Mary. Known for her encouragement, she was always ready with a smile and a hug.
She married Lerrie Ray Overton on June 20, 1964, at the First Baptist Church of Advance, MO, and he survives of the home. Other survivors include two sons, Daniel (Kimberly) Overton of Greenbrier, MO and Benjamin Overton of Scopus, MO. One sister, Nancy Dirck, of Cape Girardeau, MO. Two grandchildren, Kyle Overton of Greenbrier, MO, and Erica Overton of Houston, MO. Nieces, Terri Tafoya and Windy Morgan, Nephews. William Pedigo III, Adam Pedigo, and Jason Pedigo, plus many great and great-great nieces and nephews. Mom/Grandma/Aunt Mary/Grand Mimi enjoyed preparing birthday meals for her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, William Harlen Pedigo Jr., and one niece, Sandy Pedigo.
Miss. Mary accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior at the age of 8 at Jimmerson, which was known as Mount Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church at the time. She was later baptized and then spent the remaining years of her life telling people about Jesus. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Perryville, MO. She attended Berrong General Baptist Church in Gipsy, MO. She would want you to know that Jesus loves you and you can be saved by calling on His name and asking Him to forgive you of your sins.
Miss. Mary enjoyed gardening, canning, mowing, and reading her Bible, which she prioritized by faithfully rising at 4 am each morning to do.
Visitation will be held Sunday, October 11th, 2026, from 5:00 8:00 pm at Morgan Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held Monday, October 12th, 2026 at 11:00 am. Burial will be in the New Hope/McGee Cemetery in McGee, MO. Rev. Ed Shirrell will be officiating.
