Gary Gene Stilts, 71, of Gipsy, passed away July 16, 2024, at his home. He was born February 23, 1953, in Cape Girardeau, MO to Eugene Cicero and Beulah Ileen Stilts (Myers).
Gary grew up in Gipsy where he attended Zalma High School and graduated salutatorian of his class. He then graduated from College of the Ozarks with a bachelors degree in science in 1975.
He began his career at the US Parks Service in Gatlinburg, TN. He then relocated to Fayetteville where he worked with the Fish and Wildlife Service. One of Garys greatest accomplishments was his long and successful career with the US Army Corps of Engineers which he began in 1982. After 27 years, he retired as the Operations Manager at Wappapello Lake.
He also cherished his community involvement and held many board positions including his seat on the Puxico school board for 9 years, Peoples Community Bank board for 29 years, and membership in the Wappapello Lions Club. Gary was a proud member of Berrong General Baptist church in Gipsy, MO and loved serving alongside his church family.
Gary was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing with his sons and grandchildren. He was a true conservationist who believed in being a steward of nature and worked daily to instill that passion in all around him. He loved traveling, spending time with his family, and emphasized the importance of making memories with those he loved.
Gary and Becky Stilts were united in marriage on October 25, 1975, at the First Baptist Church in Purdy, MO.
He is survived by his wife, Becky Stilts, and their three sons, Greg (Mandi) Stilts of Gipsy, MO, Doug (Danielle) Stilts of Gipsy, MO, and Cody (Loren) Stilts of Zalma, MO, his four grandchildren, Lillian, Wyatt, Savannah, and Myer Stilts, his mother, Beulah Stilts of Gipsy, MO, and many other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Eugene Stilts.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 18, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Morgan Funeral Chapel in Advance, MO. A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 19, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at the chapel with Rev. Dan Overton and Rev. Ray Placher officiating. Burial will follow at Berrong Cemetery in Gipsy, MO.
