Richard Alan Hitt, 71, of Advance, passed away Wednesday, May 21, 2025, of a sudden heart attack. He was born February 1, 1954, in Cape Girardeau, the son of Leo and Myrtle M. Jenkins Hitt.
Richard was a 1972 graduate of Advance High School and was a member of the 1972 Missouri State Champion basketball team. He attended and played basketball at John Brown University in Siloam Springs, AR. He began his career in farming in 1975, retiring with his last harvest in 2012.
Richard was a passionate hunter of deer and turkey. He loved his little retirement farm near Zalma. He spent many days planting and maintaining food plots, putting up blinds, and hunting. When he was not at his farm, he was often found at the River or shooting the breeze with his buddies in the shed. Richard could be found at the Barber Shop making folks smile and laugh with his quick wit and lively banter. He loved making the trek to Canada for yearly fishing trips with his daughter, Ashley.
Richard and Peggy Barrett were united in marriage on February 28, 1976, in Advance. Their daughter, Ashely was born in 1981, he could not have been a more proud father.
Loving survivors include: wife, Peggy Hitt of the home, daughter, Ashley Brook (Jim Graham) Hitt of Goodridge, Minnesota, brother, Dennis (Glenda) Hitt of Advance, and a host of family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Myrtle Hitt and nephew, Travis Hitt.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 25, 2025 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Morgan Funeral Chapel in Advance. A funeral service will be held on Monday, May 26, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the chapel with Rev. Fred Ritter officiating. Burial will follow at Morgan Memorial Park in Advance.
