Frieda Mae Weishuhn, 93, of Advance, passed away October 27, 2025, at the Aspire Senior Living Center in Advance. She was born October 9, 1932, in Brownwood, the daughter of James A. and Inez Duffy Henley.
Frieda was born the year President Rosevelt was sworn into office. She was raised in a home in Advance with no electricity. As a little girl she wore handmade dresses her aunt Luella made from flour sacks and bloomers underneath. She grew up the daughter of a sharecropper, who worked daylight until dark. Her job on the farm was to help her mother milk five cows every morning and night.
On February 23, 1952, she married Carroll Dean Jarrell. In 1955 they moved to Flint, Michigan. During their marriage two sons were born, Phillip Dean and Gary Lee. Frieda later married Wayne Weishuhn on June 2, 1967. They moved home to Advance. During their marriage a son, James Wayne Weishuhn, was born. Wayne passed away on December 10, 1968.
Frieda began her nursing career as a nurses aid at Dexter Hospital. She completed LPN school and worked as an LPN for seven years. During these years she continued her nursing education, taking night courses to become a Registered Nurse. She graduated from the SEMO Registered Nursing program in May 1980. She was an RN at Southeast Hospital until her three sons graduated high school. She then worked for nine years for the Flying Nurses, throughout the western states and Honolulu, Hawaii. She returned home to Missouri to care for her ailing mother. During this time, she began working as an RN at the Advance Nursing Center. She loved every day of her 20-year career at the Advance Nursing Center. At 85 years old, Frieda finally retired from her long nursing career.
During her career she was a member of the American Nurses Association PCCW. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Advance.
Survivors include: two sons, Gary (Linda) Jarrell of Salem, Oregon and James Weishuhn of Advance, a daughter-in-law, Lori Jarrell of Advance, four grandchildren, Justin L. Carpenter, Jillian Jarrell, Sidney Deegan, and Melissa Mannilli, seven great-grandchildren, and five grea-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Wayne Weishuhn, a pre-mature son, son, Phillip Jarrell, brother, Jerry Henley, and grandson, Jeffrey Deegan.
Visitation will be held Friday, October 31, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Morgan Funeral Chapel in Advance. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. at the chapel with Father Glenn Eftink.
