Velma Lou Welker, 77, of Brownwood, MO, passed away May 8, 2026, at the Aspire Senior Living Center in Advance. She was born April 14, 1949, in Toga, MO, the daughter of Elbert Marion and Iva Etta Welker.
Velma had a 38-year career as the Postmaster of the Brownwood Post Office. She believed in the General Baptist faith and was a former member of the Brownwood General Baptist Church. In her earlier years she had worked at Morgan Funeral Home in Advance.
Velma loved to cook and spend time with her family. She was a dedicated and loving mother to her son, Christopher. The highlight of her retirement years was being able to help raise her grandson, Gabriel. She also enjoyed watching generations of children grow up in Brownwood.
Survivors include: her son, Christopher Welker of Swinton, a grandson, Gabriel Welker of Swinton, a brother, Harold Doc Welker of Brownwood, and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Melborn Welker, William Bill Welker, and Jim Welker, and a sister, Janet Sue Welty.
Visitation will be held on Monday, May 11, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Morgan Funeral Chapel in Advance. A funeral service will be held at 12: 00 p.m. at the chapel with Rev. Lynn Davenport and Rev. Keith Price Officiating. Burial will follow at Baker Cemetery in Marble Hill, MO.
